“One of my favorite workshops with Colin was Moab, UT. During my trip to Moab there was a wildfire approximately 10 miles away. On our last full day the group hiked up to Delicate Arch for sunset and Milky Way. Unbeknownst to us, the fire added a layer to our evening shoot. We were able to capture the fire through Delicate Arch, which is something I would never have thought possible. A wildfire is devastating, but at the same time, one has a chance to see beauty. Not only was our visual amazing, we were also serenaded by ‘two guys with a guitar.’ We could not see them in the darkness & at times they were laughing because they messed up lyrics, which made us laugh. Among all of the night sky experiences I have had, this one I will always look back on as surreal. I try to attend at least one workshop a year as I like Colin’s style. He is helpful, but does not micromanage. Colin does have an itinerary and we are kept pretty busy with photo shoots and post-processing, but we also have a say in what we want to do, including free time to explore on your own. I learn something new every time I attend and to me that makes it all worth it, plus the people you meet and the relationships forged are priceless. Go, just do it!”

Sunset and Night Photography in Arches National Park
“Colin was our guide over two days in Moab, UT. We took pictures at sunrise in Canyonlands and nighttime in the Arches and it was just an incredible experience. I am a novice photographer with basic camera equipment and this experience helped me to grow in my skill. Colin taught me important things about composition, using certain filters to make the colors pop, pointed out different angles, helped me understand my camera settings and so on. He was a gracious host, thinking ahead of our needs with cold water on the ready, pulling over to the side of the road to show us little secret views and taking us to some of the most amazing photo spots in the parks. The night time shoot of the Milky way was unforgettable. I had so many comments from my friends and family about the gorgeous nighttime sky. He showed me how to set the camera and focus so I can take some really great shots. The other people on the tour were more experienced and had better cameras, they took some amazing shots.”

Sunrise photography in Dead Horse Point and Canyonlands National Park
“Fantastic photography experience. My husband and I booked a sunrise photo shoot with Colin. I was the one taking pictures and my husband was an ‘extra.’ It was lots of fun and very informational. He took us to places we would have never found on our own. Colin initially helped me get my camera set up. Then he recommended camera settings and gave composition tips for each shot. He was always on hand to answer questions and make additional recommendations. Colin was very knowledgeable about the area and we talked about other locations in Utah we would like to explore with his help in the future. We hope to make it back someday! “Highlight of our time in Moab! My friend and I finally were able to vacation together after two years, but she is still recovering from foot surgery so any tour with ‘XTREME’ in the name was off the table. I thankfully found Rock Light Photo Tours! My friend and I booked the sunrise photography tour which included stops at Canyonlands and Dead Horse Point. On the morning of our original tour date it was raining hard with no plans of letting up for the rest of the day, so I reached out to Colin and he graciously offered to reschedule us for the next day. We met up the next morning while it was still very early and very dark and Colin drove us (and another guest) to our first destination while a second car followed. It all felt very safe, comfortable, and laid back. Although I did take digital and darkroom photography in university, my friend and I used our iPhones for this tour, while the other 3 guests on the tour had DSLR cameras. Colin was able to individually help all of us as needed, and pointed out all of the best photo spots at each location. We never felt rushed but were also able to visit several areas and get amazing shots I probably would have never gotten on my own! I have easily over 100 photos to go through and edit, and am so happy we did this tour. We got back to town before noon so still had plenty of the day left. I absolutely would recommend this tour for photography enthusiasts!”

“I had not visited Moab in over 15 years and wanted to photograph the Milky Way. I had an approximate date (new moon) and contacted Colin. I told him what I was looking for and my expertise level and he took it from there. All I had to do was show up. He was very engaging, gave great history and talking points about Arches NP and provided training opportunities along the way. I will definitely book with him again – perhaps in Estes NP. Colin is very qualified. The tour was exactly what we had hoped it would be! Our favorite part of the tour was Colin taking us to less popular but still stunning parts of Arches Park. My advice is bring layers for nighttime. It was a bit chilly.”
