Rock Light Photo offers intensive photography workshops in Colorado, Utah, and national parks across the U.S.  Workshops are a great way to dive deep, focus solely on photography for a few intense days, and explore a region with a group of creative, like-minded folks.

Arches at Night Perseid Meteors & Milky Way Workshop
Aug 10-14, 2026 – Moab, Utah 

Arches National Park was officially designated as an International Dark Sky Park in 2019, and is one of the most amazing places to photograph the Milky Way in the U.S. Spend 4 nights learning techniques to photograph the Milky Way against a wide variety of fascinating rock formations, including the largest collection of natural arches in the world. Oh, and the peak night for the Perseids, the busiest meteor shower of the year, corresponds with a new moon in 2026! This makes for an incredible opportunity to experience the Perseids in all their glory on truly dark nights.

Moab, Arches & Canyonlands

Moab, Arches, Canyonlands Fall Workshop
Nov 5-9, 2026 – Moab, UT + Bears Ears Extension Nov 9-11 – Bluff, UT

Spend a fantastic week exploring Arches, canyons, ancient rock art, the Colorado River, iconic movie and TV locations, and some of the best light for landscape photography in the world, at a time of the year that has great weather for photography, yet smaller crowds in Moab.  We’ll do a deep dive in the area, visiting a wide variety of great locations in Arches & Canyonlands National Parks and Dead Horse Point State Park.  We will also explore other great Moab locations like Castle Valley & Bears Ears National Monument.  The workshop will include classroom work to better your photographic craft, including time to process and critique your images, and a supportive critique of the work you create.

Arches, Canyonands & Moab Milky Way Workshop
May 6-11, 2027 – Moab, Utah 

Spend 5 nights with Rock Light Photo photographing the Milky Way and star trails in 3 designated International Dark Sky parks (Arches & Canyonlands National Parks, and Dead Horse Point State Park), against a wide variety of fascinating rock formations, including the largest collection of natural arches in the world. This year we have added a 5th night to give us more flexibility in locations, and have time to capture star trails and Milky Way images. The workshop will include classroom work to better your photographic craft, including time to process and critique your images, and a supportive critique of the work you create.

Bryce Canyon Magic Light and Night Skies Workshop
June 5-9, 2027 – Tropic, Utah 

Explore the wondrous hoodoos of Bryce Canyon National Park day and night on this 5 day photo workshop in Southern Utah, home to some of the best light for landscape photography in the world. Bryce Canyon’s high elevation, clean air, and remote location creates some of the darkest skies in the country. The workshop will include classroom work to better your photographic craft, including time to process and critique your images, and a supportive critique of the work you create. For a more collegial atmosphere, the workshop will be based in a lovely 5BR rental property in Tropic, UT.

Epic Southern Iceland Adventure

Join the waitlist to help us choose dates! Explore the spectacular South coast of Iceland for 9 days and 8 nights with photographers Colin D. Young & Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove. Half-frozen waterfalls, glacial lagoons, crystal blue ice caves and snow-capped mountains are just a few of the highlights you will experience. At night, if we are lucky, we will see the sky explode with colorful Aurora Borealis. We will explore the entire Southern Coast of Iceland: the magical waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss, the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey, the floating icebergs in Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach, a crystal blue ice cave, famous views of the Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains, and much more! Workshop Cancellation Policy

  • More than 150 days in advance – full deposit will be returned*
  • 90-150 days in advance – deposit can be used for a later workshop
  • 45-90 days in advance – 50% refund of tuition**.  If we manage to fill all the workshop slots, then the remaining 50% can be applied toward future workshops
  • *$50 administrative fee subtracted from refunds
  • **Lodging deposits may be non-refundable.
  • ***International Workshops may have non-refundable deposits
  • Life happens – travel insurance is recommended for those last minute emergencies.
