Photography Workshops
Rock Light Photo offers intensive photography workshops in Colorado, Utah, and in national parks across the U.S. Workshops are a great way to dive deep, focus solely on photography for a few intensive days, and really explore a region or national park. Each workshop includes multiple shooting locations each day, as well as classroom instruction including Lightroom workflow and location-specific lessons. The workshop ends with a revealing and inspiring group critique.

Death Valley Photo Adventure Mar 18-22, 2026 – Stovepipe Wells, CA
Join us for an exciting and rewarding five day, four night exploration of the unique landscapes of Death Valley National Park while based in national park lodging. You and fellow photographers will explore the beauty and desolate wonders of Death Valley with ominous but colorful sounding names like Badwater Basin, Dante’s View, Furnace Creek and the Devil’s Golf Course. We will explore sand dunes, salt flats, colorful sandstone canyons and historical sites in early morning and late afternoon golden hour and blue hour light, and keep our eyes peeled for Death Valley’s famed wildflower blooms.
California Redwoods & the Oregon Coast June 11-15, 2026 – Crescent City, CA – Just announced!
Forest bathe in old growth redwood forests, hike through fern canyons and along beautiful rivers, explore rocky coasts and tide pools with almost daily fog, and search for Ewoks among the ferns and rhododendron. For those that have never experienced these mammoth old growth forests, it truly is a unique experience. From our home base on the coast in Crescent City, California, near the Oregon border, we will spend 5 days exploring Redwoods National & State Parks, as well as the crags and sea stacks of the Southern Oregon coast.
Glacier National Park Exploration July 8-13, 2026 – Many Glacier, Montana – Just announced!
Join us for an exciting and rewarding six-day, five-night exploration of the unique mountain landscapes of Glacier National Park in Montana, while based in nearly-impossible-to-get national park lodging at the historic Swiftcurrent Motor Inn. You and fellow photographers will explore glacier carved mountains and valleys, impossibly blue-green glacial lakes, waterfalls, wildflowers, and wildlife. We will be based near the trailhead to some great hikes, including the famed Grinnell Glacier & Grinnell Lake Hikes, and within walking distance of Swiftcurrent Lake & Lake Josephine.
Arches at Night Perseid Meteors & Milky Way Workshop Just announced! – Aug 10-14, 2026 – Moab, Utah
Arches National Park was officially designated as an International Dark Sky Park in 2019, and is one of the most amazing places to photograph the Milky Way in the U.S. Spend 4 nights learning techniques to photograph the Milky Way against a wide variety of fascinating rock formations, including the largest collection of natural arches in the world. Oh, and the peak night for the Perseids, the busiest meteor shower of the year, corresponds with a new moon in 2026! This makes for an incredible opportunity to experience the Perseids in all their glory on a truly dark night.
Moab, Arches, Canyonlands Fall Workshop Nov 5-9, 2026 – Moab, UT
Spend a fantastic week exploring Arches, canyons, ancient rock art, the Colorado River, iconic movie and TV locations, and some of the best light for landscape photography in the world, at a time of the year that has great weather for photography, yet smaller crowds in Moab. We’ll do a deep dive in the area, visiting a wide variety of great locations in Arches & Canyonlands National Parks and Dead Horse Point State Park. We will also explore other great Moab locations like Castle Valley & Bears Ears National Monument. The workshop will include classroom work to better your photographic craft, including time to process and critique your images, and a supportive critique of the work you create.
Epic Southern Iceland Adventure March 6-14, 2027 – Reykjavík, Iceland
Explore the spectacular South coast of Iceland for 9 days and 8 nights with photographers Colin D. Young & Jeroen Van Nieuwenhove. Half-frozen waterfalls, glacial lagoons, crystal blue ice caves and snow-capped mountains are just a few of the highlights you will experience. At night, if we are lucky, we will see the sky explode with colorful Aurora Borealis. We will explore the entire Southern Coast of Iceland: the magical waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss & Skógafoss, the dramatic Reynisdrangar sea stacks, the steep cliffs of Dyrhólaey, the floating icebergs in Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and nearby Diamond Beach, a crystal blue ice cave, famous views of the Vestrahorn and Eystrahorn mountains, and much more! And don’t forget to bring your drone!

More than 150 days in advance – full deposit will be returned*
90-150 days in advance – deposit can be used for a later workshop
45-90 days in advance – 50% refund of tuition**. If we manage to fill all the workshop slots, then the remaining 50% can be applied toward future workshops
*$50 administrative fee subtracted from refunds
**Lodging deposits may be non-refundable.
